Field Notes

Description:

Perennial herbaceous plant, 3' tall, up to 5' in shaded areas, and erect. A single stem branches extensively toward the top into short stems forming a flat-topped cluster of numerous button-like flower heads; plants have medicinal properties.

Notes:

Ecological Threat: It is highly invasive and therefore can severely reduce pasture capacity and desirable forage. In some instances it can be toxic to livestock if consumed. Common tansy can also degrade wildlife habitat, hinder reforestation and landscape restoration efforts.
