Brown with white streaks and spots. Iris is yellow and turns red as it matures

Habitat:

This wetland bird frequent ponds, streams, marshes, lagoons, exposed reefs, and tide pools.

Notes:

Feeds on crustaceans, fish, frogs, mice, insects, and downy chicks or other water birds.
