Problem is that in Monsoon Peacocks goes deep in forests. I have to wait till October to locate them.
OK, Green Peafowl are from Java, Indonesia. There are several variations but males and females are similar, though only males have the train in breeding season. I think I have pictures somewhere, will post when I find them. I have just seen some Indian Peafowl here in Spain, complete with young, will post pics after returning home.
Malcolm, I will find Peacocks here first then post informative pictures. All happen after 2 months.
Ashish, the Green Peafowl is a different bird altogether, the male Indian (Peacock) is mainly blue while the female (Peahen) is green and brown, with a much shorter tail. The Green Peafowl (male) has a green breast, neck and head. I don't have the remaining details in my head at the moment and I don't have my books with me so will answer when I get home.
Isn't it Green peacock...? Malcolm you already got it.
Thank you, although I knew the Peacock was the male of the species ;) and Peahen the female, I didn't know they were called Peafowl! So this is an Indian Peafowl, sounds very exotic, will change name now!
The female has a much shorter tail and a white belly. The all green peacock is known as a Green Peafowl, Pavo muticus, and again the female has a short tail but is otherwise very similar. Peacock refers to the male of either species and peahen the female.
Peacocks majestic as always, beautiful picture!
