Field Notes

Habitat:

Disturbed areas, canyonlands, campgrounds, heavily graced pastures in a limited range in southeastern Colorado

Notes:

I took this photo from a train tour as we waited for the train to prepare for its return trip to Cañon City. the lizard was in the gravel between the train tracks and the bank of the Arkansas River right outside the Royal Gorge. From what I've read online and the range maps I've seen this is the Triploid (parthenogenetic species comprised solely of females) and not the Common Checkered Whiptail.
