Field Notes

Description:

It was interesting to watch this fly lick the flowers. It kept on sliding off the flower and finally made it to the middle. Adults of this group emerge from pupa by cutting a circular seam from egg, larva, pupa and adult. Most flies, including the Housefly belong to this group. Pomace flies pass through the stages so rapidly that they are often used in genetic studies.

Interesting spotting; there is a misspelling in the common name. Do you know why they are called circular-seamed?
