Description:

The least chipmunk (Tamias minimus) is the smallest chipmunk in North America. It is also the most widespread species of chipmunk in North America.
These animals are active during the day and eat seeds, berries, nuts, fruits and insects. Predators include hawks, owls and mustelids.

Habitat:

The species is found in a variety of habitats including mixed deciduous and coniferous forests, boreal forest, and sagebrush plains.

Your chipmunk is far too dark to be a Hopi. Hopi's are light brown with tan stripes on the back, and the face is light gray-brown with tan stripes. Your chipmunk is much more contrasting in colors, just like the Least chipmunk.

Hello AshleyT, I'm still not convinced because the least chipmunk has dark stripes on the back, so I think I should go for the Hopi as valgaavmiko suggests. What do you think ?

Indeed and they exist in all sizes, shapes en colors, the world is amazing. If more people would want to look to even the small things in there surrounding , it would be even more appreciated ;-) Thanks kdpicturemaker !

I don't believe the striping is correct for the Colorado. It looks more like a Hopi chipmunk (Neotamius rufus) but I'm getting some conflicting range maps. It is said they are in Utah, but I'm not sure which parts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hopi_chipmunk

I'm not any expert, but it sure does look like a Colorado chipmunk. Great pictures!
