Yellow Sand Verbena

This plant grows on sandy beaches throughout the west coast of the US. The flowers actually have no petals; what you see are the sepals, which are just as showy with their bright yellow coloration. The plants normally bloom from spring to fall but this particular specimen was blooming on the first few days of January.
