The dusky grouse is about the size of a small chicken. The photo is of a hen; males tend to be darker.

Habitat:

The dusky grouse lives in forested areas of the Rocky Mountains.

Notes:

Originally the dusky grouse and the sooty grouse were lumped together under a single common name of blue grouse.
