Description:
Strawberries became the state of Louisiana fruit in 1980. More than three hundred thousand visitors from across the world. The seeds can grow into new strawberry plants, but most instead reproduce through runners. The seeds you see on the on the outside of a strawberry are actually the plant's ovaries called achene's. Each seed is its own fruit.
The roots are shallow, most of the roots grow less than 12 inches into the soil.
Habitat:
Wild strawberries grow in a variety of habitats, ranging from open woodlands and meadows to sand dunes and beaches. In California, strawberries are grown as a perennial crop. It is the No.1 producer accounting for 80% of the total U.S. strawberry production. However, supply of fresh strawberries from California starts decreasing by the end of October and this is where Florida strawberry growers dominate the market supply.
