Definitely need help with this one. Not sure of spotting date either. While I'm going with Wheel Bug, there is a small dispute on this. Comments always appreciated.

If you make sure to leave the box checked for "needs identification," it will still come up in the results in the pictures needing an ID. If you want to research some similar bugs on your own, definitely look up the Assassin bug family, Reduviidae. They're a very interesting group!
Okay still going with wheel bug, but thanks for the new suggestion. Can people still suggest ID's even though I've named it?
Voted your ID up :)
I think it's pretty safe to say that it is one: the colors of the antennae, ends of the legs, stripes on its abdomen, leathery brown wings, size, and general coloration looks pretty spot on for the wheel bug. There's no other north American bug like it.
Thanks guys. Not sure about the crest. It's been a while.
You're probably right. I was using dayna's spotting as reference http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/5050008
It sort of looks like a Wheel bug...do you remember if it had a crest behind it's head, like in this picture? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/4956344 It's kind of blurry, but I'm leaning towards it being a wheel bug.
