Thank you for the help IDing this, every spring we have hundreds of them on our windows. Now all I need to do is figure out how to change it from unknown to what you suggested...
There are several different species of lady bug... can't tell for sure which one yours is but here are some pictures.

They are very beneficial since they eat aphids. Aphids can be very destructive to food crops (fruit trees especially)
