Field Notes

Description:

A small migratory diving duck. Adult males have iridescent green and purple heads with a large white patch behind the eye. The plumage is black and white. Females are grey-toned with a smaller white patch behind the eye and a light underside partially seen in pic 4.

Habitat:

Spotted at Klopp Lake at the Arcata Marsh and Bird Sanctuary.
