Field Notes

Description:

These large birds are common in the Americas where they scavenge on carrion. Their name comes from their turkey-like heads which have no feathers so as to avoid the problem of getting dirty plumage from rotting meat.

Notes:

3 birds scavenging a dead duck on a levee at the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant.
