Field Notes

Description:

One of the largest woodpeckers in North America. They generally stay high in the trees making for difficult photography. Easily identified by the pinkish redbreast, red face, and grey collar.

Habitat:

Spotted high on a treetop in the Wenas wilderness. Prefers open pine woodlands. Ranges in western North America.
