44.5046, -68.2701
Field Notes
Description:
Adult eagles have dark brown bodies, white heads, yellow legs beak and eyes. First year chicks are totally dark brown (including eyes), each year becoming more mottled until they have full adult plummage at around 5 years. Their wingspan is 7'. The female is a bit larger and bulkier than the male.
Habitat:
Coastal bays, estuaries, rivers and lakes.
Notes:
Inland Fisheries and wildlife banded and took blood samples from this chick to determine the levels of PCBs it was carrying. I had the privilege of helping them get out to the island where the nest is.
