Field Notes
Description:
Roughly 8 millimeters in length, black marked with ivory as shown. Flange-like expansion of front tibia distinctive for males in the genus Crabro.
Habitat:
Found on sunflower foliage (Helianthus annuum) at the edge of a degraded shortgrass prairie with yucca, prickly-pear cacti, and scattered elm trees.
Notes:
Males use the "shields" on the front legs to cover the eyes of the female, filtering incoming light in a species-specific pattern.
