Cape Coral Florida is home to the largest population of the Florida species of the Burrowing Owl in the world. Estimates of just how many Burrowing Owls there are range from 1000 to 2000 nesting pairs. It is know that there are 2800 burrows located within the city limits (official survey), but not all of the burrows are active, and some were abandonded.
