Field Notes

Description:

An elephant caked in mud visits our research camp as the sun rises.

Habitat:

Riparian, along the Luangwa River, Eastern Zambia

Notes:

This elephant was with a herd that frequented our research camp while the wild mango tree was in fruit. The herd, besides feeding voracioulsy on the wild mangos, would also allow their baby elephants to sleep under the magnificent mango tree.
