Field Notes

Description:

Large Snake-Eagle, wing span 5.75 feet. It looked huge as it flew past me.

Habitat:

Bush-covered hillside with scattered trees. (Spain's lowest mountain!)

Notes:

I watched it circle overhead, then fold its wings and drop like a stone. I thought it had seen its prey but at the last minute it opened its wings, dropped its feet and settled in a tree right in front of me. I tried to photo it in the tree but the focus was not quick enough and he flew as soon as he heard the camera.
