Field Notes

Description:

Small flowers, around 1 inch in diameter, with 6 purple petals and yellow and white stamen. The flowers only stand about an inch high, with leaves at the base.

Habitat:

Grassy areas in mountains, usually under pine tress.

Species ID Suggestions

I wondered about the wild saffron too Noe and Pili but there was no evidence of the 3 long red stigmas that they have which are the parts that are dried and used in cooking. So still not sure.
