Field Notes

Description:

Big, quiet, amazing.

Habitat:

Nesting in huge nest in dead tree. Also saw perched high up in large Australian Pine trees.

Notes:

We wondered if the little round thing in the picture when in the nest could have been a little owlet? The little round thing would pop up from time to time, and mama (daddy?) owl seemed to be leaning over it. But we didn't have a telescope and couldn't really tell. When we came back 30 mins later the pair had moved over to large pines nearby. One then swooped away to another large pine, absolutely silent. Favorite quote from my 5 year old daughter as we watched them and they watched us..."Daddy, did you know that I'm a little bit scared?"

We thought it was a little owl. Hoping to go back this weekend with a telescope to try to confirm.
Wow is that a little owl in the nest? Precious!
we really wanted to think so....hoping to track down a telescope and go back again later this week to check it out.
How exciting to see their nest! I'd bet money on the round thing being a little owlet. :)
