Mother Nature is amazing. Beautiful photograph, too.
Georgeous colour - from surface UV light?
amazing..! now I know that the colors are from the symbiotic relations with the algae, had been wondering why they're so brightly and multi-colored. thanks for the info.

Spotting of the day! "The radiant blue color of the Giant Clam is caused by the billions of algae that host in its mantle." http://facebook.com/projectnoah/posts/131291763616957 http://twitter.com//projectnoah/status/81910138889441281
Wow..I also did not know about the color being produced by algae..is amazing. They are all colors and sizes, at least the ones I have seen in Thailand and Cambodia..
the color ist caused by algae? Never though that! I suggesst its the same mechanism the octopus has
jamerbean, the color is actually caused by the billions of algae the clams host in their mantle. They also get most of their nutrients from this symbiotic relationship.
Wow, I had no idea they became so brilliantly blue! Lovely photo.
