Description:
Several small white mushrooms within an area of about ¼ square meter along a trail. Superficial observations: caps, stipe and gills white. Gills crowded, as would be expected since caps, convex or bell-shaped, 1 - 1½ inches wide and slightly less tall, were apparently unopened. White scales or veil remnants were observed on caps in some cases. Stipes thick, 2 inches or less long, noticeably bulbous; bulbs ½ to perhaps ⅔ the size of a golf ball.
Habitat:
Lowland insular tropical mesic mixed forest.
Notes:
Spotted along the Upper Waimano Trail in south central Oahu about a half mile from the trailhead during a group hike, so it was not possible to make detailed observations, particularly of the gills. ID based on information in a local mushroom guide. See also Mushroom Observer:
