Field Notes

Description:

Coyote caught in mid-leap while hunting at Swan Lake Flats near Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone National Park. Coyotes use their remarkable sense of hearing to locate small prey beneath snow, then pounce nose-first and dig furiously in pursuit of food. This attempt failed to produce a meal.

Notes:

Lin captured this photo with her Nikon D-90 DSLR camera and Nikkor 70-300 mm lens during a working visit to Yellowstone National Park in April 2010. For more wildlife photos by Dan and Lin, see: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ndomer73/.

it truly is! That is how coyotes bring down preys. They jump up in the air and come straight down ,pointing towards the prey ,and then slamming it!
