Field Notes

Description:

A booby of some kind. It has blue feet but head and neck feathers appear to be darker than the blue footed booby.

Habitat:

It was handed into my friend who runs an animal shelter on a small island in Indonesia.

Notes:

Once it is healthy it will be released. She knows it is a booby but not which kind. I would like to help her identify it and to know if it is normal for it to be in this area.

Species ID Suggestions

Brown booby

Sula leucogaster

Comments (1)

That is most likely a brown booby as their distribution range is also in Indonesia and they're the most widespread species. Unlike a blue-footed booby, it is found in the eastern pacific. The coloration of its bare parts can be yellow or bluish because they can vary geographically, but not seasonally.
