Thanks for the tips , Malcolm!
It's easy, Whimbrel has clear stripes on the head and bill is 2x head length, Curlew does not have stripes and bill is 3-4 times head length. For a tiny island Singapore has over 400 bird species so one for each square mile.
This picture is great to help differentiate between curlew and whimbrel. Looks like Singapore is very diverse in wild life.
