Whew... Thanks Gordon... it's not like any I've seen but your explanation about melting makes sense.

I'd agree with the possibility of it being either a cottontail or snowshoe hare track. The tracks are melted out somewhat, but the longer track towards the back of this pattern could be the melted out remains of the two front feet and the two tracks out in front being the hind feet. Both cottontails and snowshoe hares live in the area live in that location. Size and pattern would be good clues.

The closest I can come is rabbit or snowshoe hare. How large were they and how far apart. Can't see your second photo very well but was there always a big print with two in front? The single long print is definitely a mystery

I know for sure it's not a human foot print. There was NONE anywhere near this forest. They were fresh prints. I did see wolf tracks, of course deer, fishers, turkeys and such….Iv'e never seen anything like this before?
