Field Notes

Description:

The centre of most flowers have a red tinge but a few don't - anyone know why? The two can occur side by side on the same tree. We have two tree types, one produces pointed almond and the others all have round almonds.

Habitat:

In my garden (or should I call it an orchard)?

Notes:

More than one hundred almond varieties grow in Spain but there are five main commercial types - Marcona, Largueta, Planeta, Valencias or Common Almond and Majorca. The first three are native to Spain. Marcona almonds are round.
