Description:
The Soldier Pansy or Soldier Commodore (Junonia terea) is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. It is found in the Afrotropic ecozone. Junonia terea is a very common and widespread species, found from Senegal to southern Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia; and south to Congo, Tanzania and Transvaal. The wingspan is 50–55 mm in males and 52–60 mm in females.
Habitat:
Seen during a walk into Kibale national Park. Tropical rain forest. This species lives in semi-montane forests, at an elevation of about 1,500–2,300 metres (4,900–7,500 ft) above sea level.
Notes:
Kibale National Park (pronounced Chibale) is a national park in South Uganda protecting moist evergreen rain forest. It is 766 km² in size and is located between 1,100–1,600 meters in elevation.
