Field Notes

Description:

A male merlin swooped down on and scattered a flock of redpolls then sat in the tree for a couple of minutes waiting to see if they would come back. He seemed to be molting on his back. I couldn't get a clear shot because of the branches..

Habitat:

Mixed hardwood forest.

Notes:

They usually overwinter further south so he has probably just arrived in the area.
