Description:

Tree or shrub with oval leaves. Berries or fruit are almost spiky and go from green to yellow to orange to red. Size is about 3/4"

Habitat:

Found in several places in Getty villa.

Fruit is sweet but has insipid taste, however, a good dietary source for birds. The fruit-laden tree looks fabulous.
Have a look at this link, I'm pretty sure it is the strawberry tree: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbutus_unedo In Portugal the fruit is used to make a strong 'firewater' called Medronho. The Monchique area is well-known for it's homemade and very strong varieties
I wonder is it the fruit of the 'strawberry tree' which are used to make 'medronho' in Portugal?
