Thanks. Actually, I caught that pic as it was emerging from the whole in the tree. Assuming it was a young one taking adult form for first time.
That's a wonderful picture, too cool! It's a female wasp, using her ovipositor to lay her eggs in the wood. They look pretty scary, but they're harmless to humans. They're able to sting, but you probably don't have to worry about that. After some more searching, I may have found an ID for this one, I'll upload the new suggestion and let you check for yourself.
