Field Notes

Description:

Spotted this ratsnake starting to sluggishly cross the road (it's very cold today). After taking a few pics, I grabbed a stick and placed it safely in the grass out of harm's way. I thought it was interesting the way it shook the tip of it's tail defensively when I got close similar to a rattlesnake, but it never struck at me. It was also surprisingly heavy.
