Description:

My husband's Grandma had these growing in a pot by her garage and they overflowed and are growing in a huge patch but I can't think of what they are called.

Maybe Sempervivum, aka Houseleeks or Liveforever? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sempervivum
Also some of the ones in the are were purplish instead of green but all from the same bunch.
AH http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Succulent_plant Succulent was the word I've been searching for. Now lets see if we can find out which one this is :D
