Description:

This gypsy moth larva chewed the bark on this Norway maple before I could get to him. I've been through an infestation before but this is the largest individual I have ever seen. As you can see, this one was almost 3 inches long.

Habitat:

Norway maple trunk in shrubby woodlands.

That is one huge caterpillar! Just imagine how large the moth is going to be...the northeast has been fighting the gypsy moth since the late 1800s, it's proven itself a tough adversary.
