Field Notes

Description:

This is my first spotting of this beautiful little bird. My husbands workmate took me to the spot where it was by backhoe, as the birds were used to it's movement, rather than just walking there which would frighten them. There are 3 small eggs, as shown in the third photo. I'd love to get a shot of the chicks if I can without disturbing them . A pair of Masked Lapwings were close by with 2 small chicks & an unhatched egg. Made my day seeing this little beauty, though I was amazed they would nest so close to all that large machinery action!

Habitat:

Disturbed ground near a construction site.

Yes they're such striking colours on the beak & eye-ring, compared to the rest of the bird.
: ) It's such a lovey bird, with an extraordinary eye-ring!
No, sorry, just add the spotting tot he mission.
Sure thing Ava. How do I add the last photo only. Do I have to change it to the first?
Thank you kd. It was my first sighting of these birds. They are so beautiful :)
Please consider adding that scrape nest to the Animal Architecture mission at http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8082378
Beautiful detail. Have not seen as much of these birds in recent years, so thank you for reminding me just how special they are.
