The genus name of a species should always be capitalized. The correct way to type the scientific name on this one is Basiliscus plumifrons.

I think I may have goofed - looks like this is an emerald basilisk and not a common basilisk. Hard to figure online because I think others have made the same error - but I think it's basiliscus plumifrons...
Wow! What a nice surprise! When I loaded the shots onto the computer I told my husband they were National Geographic stuff, haha. I have a new camera, wish I'd had it for some of my earlier spottings. at the riverfront on our property there's a clump of trees that appears to be home to a vine snake, a common basilisk, a brown basilisk, and a young iguana, since we see them all the time (who knows what else). So to get a great shot all you have to do is lie there with your camera ready.

The common basilisk is also known as the Jesus lizard for its ability to run on the surface of water.
