Alice, I think this might actually be the dark female form of the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Papilio glaucus. It mimics the distasteful Pipevine Swallowtail for protection from predators. http://www.fcps.edu/islandcreekes/ecology/eastern_tiger_swallowtail.htm Maybe someone else out there could verify this
I think it is an Eastern Black Swallotail,such a nice intense blue
