Field Notes

Description:

This looks like a male mallard except for the absence of the characteristic green head and the coloring on his back that seems different from the classic colors. Perhaps a hybrid with some other species?

Habitat:

Along an inland fresh water canal in western Boca Raton, FL.

Notes:

He was with a group of FL mottled ducks but was a little larger and distinctly different looking. You can see most of one of the mottled ducks in the second photo.

Comments (1)

He doesn't look to be a hybrid, just looks like he is in eclipse plumage. Still a Mallard though.
