Species ID Suggestions

Powder-puff

Calliandra sp.

Comments (3)

Yes, it is quite tricky, Dan. Apparently, Calliandra and Albizia can be told apart by their seed pods and fruit. Their growing zones also overlap! I think it’s not possible to identify the genus from these pictures unless Marek adds more photos of the fruit, which are basically pea pods. :-)
It can be hard to ID these powder puff flowers sometimes, it may also be the Persian Silk Tree https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albizia_julibrissin
Possibly C. parvifolia: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a1/Calliandra_parvifolia_02.jpg There are more than 100 species in the genus, so I can’t say for certain. It also resembles C. surinamensis, however, the leaves didn’t appear to match.
