Description:
Supposedly here in Georgia, Viceroys are more brown and resemble the Queen, but this particular specimen certainly looks orange to me. At first glance I thought it was a Monarch, as I've seen a lot of milkweed and monarch caterpillars this summer.
Habitat:
Moist open or shrubby areas such as lake and swamp edges, willow thickets, valley bottoms, wet meadows, and roadsides.
Northwest Territories south along the eastern edges of the Cascade and Sierra Nevada mountains to central Mexico, east through all the eastern United States.
Notes:
Spotted on wildflowers in a brushy area between a church and neighborhood.
