Description:

The first picture is just a cropped section of the second one The "close-up" shows just a little of the colouring of the larva. Often, it is impossible to see even that much of the Bagworm. The second photo shows the entire "bag".

Habitat:

This Bagworm was spotted on a hedge running along the side of a rice field.

Notes:

This creature is a Bagworm Moth from the Lepidopteran Family "Psychidae". For me (and I suspect many others) it is probably one of the most difficult insects to identify, beyond family level. Here, in the Philippines, Bagworms are present in great numbers and I generally avoid taking pictures of them because I know that I am going to spend a lot of time trying to identify them, with little chance of success. Some sources say that the best way to identify Bagworms is by the style of their bags which are unique to each species. Others advise that it is best to compare the markings and colours of the larvae, then check the bags against known species. The problem with all of this, for me, is the lack of available pictures to compare with my spottings.
