Description:
These critters are abundant in the Sierra Nevada mountains, but have experienced a 'thinning' in population over the past decade- cause unknown.
Habitat:
They typically inhabit areas of conifer forests above 3500 foot elevation and live in burrows underground.
Notes:
They feed on native seeds, berries and nuts collected from native plants and seed cones from pines and cedars. They also scavenge from and are fed by campers =)
