Field Notes

Description:

This spider had made a web from the car door to the side-view mirror of the car. Luckily the car wasn't being used much and I was able to observe this behaviour over a 2 day period.
The very small male? looks like it was mating with the very large female!

Habitat:

Seen in a mountainous rainforest area between San Isidro de la General and Dominical in Costa Rica.

I really enjoy photos #3 and #4. What a superb series!
You are right pamsai. I did not realize that he was every picture. I hope this female would not eat the male after......
Rieko and Tom15. I think they are mating. The male is present somewhere in every photo. Take a closer look...
Rieko, I didn't even notice the little male until you mentioned it. Wow, what a size difference!
Tom, is the little spider a male in 6th picture?
Nice series! These large spiders are known to have some of the strongest silk of any spider.
