Description:
I spotted these nymphs in various stages happily feeding away on the leaves, immature pods, and seeds of Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa) in a backyard butterfly garden.

Habitat:
Ranges east of the Rocky Mountains, as far north as Ontario, Canada, but is more abundant in SE US in fields and meadows containing milkweed or dogbane. Groups of insects in all stages of development are commonly found between May and October on common milkweed plants. (Bug Guide says the range is larger: CA-FL-NB-UT)
