Field Notes

Description:

Tiny colourful sunbird with metallic hues that flash in the sunlight as it flits from flower to flower. The colours are: green, maroon, yellow, white....

Habitat:

This one is a regular on the Rangoon creeper, Combretum indicum. But it never stays still.

Notes:

The drably coloured female is more bold and stays on the flower longer...so, it is easier to shoot.

Thanks Marta, I had been after this guy for a long time...his mate posed prettily every day and truth to tell I got a little fed up...but this one here led me many merry chases...and blurry shots!!! Finally caught him today. Many thanks.

There is no such bird as Purple-vented Sunbird. The "vent" is the area below the tail. The "rump" is the area above. http://www.amazon.com/Pocket-Guide-Birds-Indian-Subcontinent/dp/0195651553
