Field Notes

Description:

Clear gelatinous mass ~ 8 x 10 mm, with embedded light brown spherical objects.

Habitat:

Freshwater stream in tropical insular lowland urban area.

Notes:

Spotted on the underside of a rock in Manoa Stream while out hunting flatworms with my daughter. The flatworm hunt involved flipping over rocks in stagnant or slowly-flowing water at the edge of the stream to inspect their undersides for worms. Upon flipping one rock I spotted the unknown mass. It was almost certainly as egg mass, but whether of a fish, arthropod, amphibian or reptile I have no idea.
