Green Stink Bug (captured by Green-headed Ants)
Plautia affinis

Field Notes
Description:
A Green Stink Bug captured by Green-headed Ants (Rhytidoponera metallica), also known as Metallic Pony Ants. The ants are common in this area, but it's the first time I've come across this species of stink bug. The bugs were knocked from a branch as gardeners were pruning the tree. I found two specimens on the path beneath the tree - one squished (photos 4 and 5), the other still alive and captured by the ants. Species of tree unknown, but I've also spotted in these trees Golden Brown Shield Bugs (Anchises parvulus) and Rattle Ants (Polyrhachis australis). It is also a favourite nesting tree species for Noisy Miners (Manorina melanocephala).
Habitat:
Trees in the Metroplex on Gateway estate.
