Gulf Coast Toad
Incilius nebulifer
32.8895, -97.2788
Field Notes
Description:
This toad is common in our garden, as it lives in a drain pipe on the rock wall in the back of the garden. The Coastal Plains Toad is notable from the other toads in the family Bufonidae because its in a different genus Incilius. This genus has a more defined cranial crest than Anaxyrus. I was looking to photograph sphinx moths on my blooming Mirabilis jalapa at around 9:15 pm, when I saw this toad hopping around the grass. It was very active jumping around everywhere, but I luckily took a few clear pics. This widespread and common toad is not threatened, but is least concerned on IUCN 3.1.
Habitat:
In my garden, Fort Worth, Texas.
