yes Kathleen. i was able to observe one several months ago and it did not seem shy http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/2119906002 Ridgeway rails are endangered. Bolsa chica has a good habitat for these and right now there were many black fledglings around.
Amazing that you got a photo! Is this Rallus obsoletus levipes? endangered and a subspecies of Ridgway's?
